Project description

Agriculture is a clear example of a sector where the application of IoT technologies has significant benefits, including maximising crop yields and optimising the use of resources. This is the main reason why precision farming has been growing so fast in recent years. In 2017 alone, there were an estimated 43 million IoT device data submissions in this sector globally, and this is expected to increase by 75% by 2020.

However, agronomic data can be very useful for management decisions, especially in an environment such as the wine-growing one, where aspects as diverse as climatology, biology, agronomic practices, market demand, etc. intervene. Adequate forecasting of wine production or vintage quality in conjunction with other data such as the volume of wines stored in the cellar according to quality or vintage, the evolution of sales or operating costs can be of great help to managers when making strategic decisions of the utmost importance.
importance for the wineries, such as setting prices, establishing the destination of the year’s harvest (young wines, crianza, reserve, signature, etc.), etc..

In this context, the present project aims to address something hitherto unheard of: merging winery cost and productivity management information from ERP and agronomic information obtained directly from the vineyards to improve strategic decision making. To this end, two leading companies in La Rioja in their different fields, TIPSA and ENCORE LAB, will work together.

The main objective of this project is the development of a comprehensive management system to support technicians responsible for strategic decision making and will be specific to companies in the viticulture sector.

Reply from Encore-Lab

ENCORE LAB will play an important role in the different development phases of the project, implementing all the development related to agro-climatic information systems.

Its contribution to the project will be particularly important in the development of the agro-climatic data gateway, which it will carry out in its entirety, and in phases such as the integration of systems and validation of the final solution.

El nuevo sistema de información integral será accesible vía WEB lo que permitirá una conectividad directa desde cualquier lugar y dispositivo conectado a internet, en todo momento.

For the end user, AGROBI will be very easy to use. Access will be via an interface accessible through any browser and will work in a similar way to existing ERPs, providing instant results to management queries.

Beforehand, the winery will have configured its plots in the AGROBI system and the agro-climatic stations that have been installed in them will also have been linked. These will be responsible for collecting agro-climatic data (temperatures, humidity, rainfall, solar radiation, etc.).

Once the platform has been set up, field technicians will be able to enter agronomic information from the plot itself using, for example, their mobile phone. In this way, data will be collected on diseases, counts, phenological states, etc., which until now have gone unrecorded.

The hardware architecture of the system will consist of two dedicated servers interacting with each other. The agro-climatic information collected in the vineyards will be hosted on the server belonging to ENCORE LAB, while all the economic management part and the AGROBI system will be managed through the TIPSA server.

The user will be completely oblivious to this configuration as well as to all the complexity of the metrics and KPIs that the system will run internally. As a result, you will be able to have real and complete information that takes into account all relevant aspects of your business in a way that supports sound decision making.

To validate the developed system, a pilot will be carried outin a real environment. In particular, several agro-climatic stations will be installed in a vineyard to collect data that will be integrated into the KPIs and metrics and will give a new dimension to the economic management data.

Results

The new comprehensive information system will be accessible via the WEB, allowing direct connectivity from any place and device connected to the internet, at any time.
